Prof. Adam Stabholz

 

Prof. Adam Stabholz was born in Poland in 1948 and immigrated to Israel with his family at the age of two. He completed his compulsory army service, in 1968, with the rank of captain in the Israel Air Force.  In 1974 he graduated from the Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dental Medicine founded by the Alpha Omega Fraternity and in 1978 he completed the graduate program in endodontics at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

In 1988, he was appointed Head of the department of endodontics at the Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dental Medicine, a position he has held until last year.

Prof. Stabholz was elected as Dean of the Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dental Medicine in 1993, and in 1996 he was re-elected as Dean for a second consecutive three years term. In this year, he was also promoted to the rank of full professor in endodontics.

He has been chairman of the organising committees for several international congresses held in Israel, including: the First International Endodontics Conference (1981); the Second World Dental Conference (1988); the International I.B. Bender Conference in Endodontics (1996), the Fourth Endodontic World Congress of IFEA (1998) and the 50th Anniversary Celebrations and Scientific Congress of the School of Dental Medicine in Jerusalem (2003).

Adam has held several important positions in the Alpha Omega Fraternity. In 1984, he was elected President of the Jerusalem Chapter. In 1989, he was the Marshal of the International Alpha Omega Convention in Jerusalem and in the following 13 years he served Alpha Omega as a Regent, as an International Trustee and as an International Director.

He is also the past President of IFEA-the International Federation of Endodontic Associations, an umbrella organization of endodontic societies of 28 countries.

Prof. Stabholz was awarded honorary degrees from the University of Bucharest, the Medical University of Plovdiv and the University of Buenos Aires and the Certificate of Merit of the Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity. He received from the Israel Dental Association the “Yakir Harash” award – the highest award for outstanding contribution to the dental profession in Israel and was elected as the Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Israel Dental Association.

On May 2005, Prof. Stabholz was elected again as Dean of the Hebrew University – Hadassah school of Dental Medicine for a term of 4 years and in May 2009, he was re-elected for his forth term for four more years.

In 2011, he was elected as the Vice Chair of the Alliance for Oral Health Across Borders.

In 2012, he received the Achievement Medal Award from the Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity for outstanding contribution to dentistry or its allied professions.

In 2015, he served as the International President of the Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity.

In 2017 he received the Thomas Evans Achievement Award of the University of Pennsylvania and an honorary membership of the Israel Dental Association.

In 2018 he was elected as Vice President of the ISLD (the International Society of Lasers in Dentistry).

Adam has published extensively in the dental literature; he is the author of several chapters in endodontic textbooks and has lectured at many international dental meetings. His current research is focused on the application of lasers in dentistry.

He is married to Ayala, a Clinical Associate Professor in Periodontics and they have three children: Karin (41), Yariv (37) and Yoav (31) and three grandchildren.
